About us

The Petersfield Choir was formed in 2014 following the closure of an earlier choir.

Because of this, most of the singers have many years' experience of choral singing.

We rehearse on Monday evenings from 8:00pm in the town centre.

Although we usually have a rehearsal accompanist, singers are not taught their parts and must be able to read music well enough to sing their part without help.

We sing a wide range of musical styles and are always looking to do something new, interesting and challenging.

Our Director

Steve Sargent has been involved in amateur music all his life, from singing and playing cornet in the Salvation Army as a teenager to playing 1st Trumpet in The Band of the Hampshire Constabulary for 28 years, and singing in various choral groups along the way.

He formed the brass quintet "Quintessential Brass" in 1991, and the close-harmony a cappella group "The Free Radicals" in 2007.  Both groups are still performing regularly under his direction.  He also formed and led a successful  community choir 'Just Sing' in Petersfield.  He now sings 2nd Bass in The Harlequin Chamber Choir in Surrey.

He composes and arranges music from time to time.

Leading The Petersfield Choir, his ambition is for singers to enjoy making entertaining music to a high quality whilst exploring the vast repretoire which is available.  He is particularly keen on the unaccompanied singing of songs which are rich in harmony, interest and emotion.
